I used it as a combiner, so both my HD cable audio and Blue-ray audio could use my Home Theater system. During the install I had to manually press and shake on this cheap plastic part to align it and get it to work right. However, since the connection is behind a wall unit, I don't see it getting out of alignment again. One thing to note is the cable/DVR box needs to be powered off, when you use the Blu-ray and visa verse (only one optical audio input should be on - you can visually see the red light when you install to verify this).
